SOULS BARED IN BODY PAINT
Houston, Tx: Vonetta Berry, of ABC Bodyart, is launching a new series of performance-styled body painting events, Body Expression Thursdays, at Avant Garden, the funky art bar which was formerly Helios, at 411 Westheimer and Taft. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 9 pm till Midnight, with an $8 cover.
Witness this soulful collaborative happening reminiscent of the 1960s events, where one could become immersed in the artmaking and performance process. “I really want to allow the audience to participate in the process I use to make art, so I talk to them and engage them as well as the musicians and model to have a true collaboration by the end of the night,” says Vonetta of the event’s aim. Each event will be unique, like a visual improvisation.
This month’s event will have musical contributions by, Kozmic Oasis recording artist, K’Monte, whose music can only be described as SOUL. Not just his style roots, but the origin of his music is his own soul. Fitted with an acoustic guitar, K’Monte, the models, and Vonetta onstage will create a relaxed, sixties-style vibe in the upstairs of Avant Garden. The audience members are encouraged to participate, as they may make suggestions, or even volunteer to model!
