SOULS BARED IN BODY PAINT

Houston, Tx: Vonetta Berry, of ABC Bodyart, is launching a new series of performance-styled body painting events, Body Expression Thursdays, at Avant Garden, the funky art bar which was formerly Helios, at 411 Westheimer and Taft. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 9 pm till Midnight, with an $8 cover.
Witness this soulful collaborative happening reminiscent of the 1960s events, where one could become immersed in the artmaking and performance process. “I really want to allow the audience to participate in the process I use to make art, so I talk to them and engage them as well as the musicians and model to have a true collaboration by the end of the night,” says Vonetta of the event’s aim. Each event will be unique, like a visual improvisation.
This month’s event will have musical contributions by, Kozmic Oasis recording artist, K’Monte, whose music can only be described as SOUL. Not just his style roots, but the origin of his music is his own soul. Fitted with an acoustic guitar, K’Monte, the models, and Vonetta onstage will create a relaxed, sixties-style vibe in the upstairs of Avant Garden. The audience members are encouraged to participate, as they may make suggestions, or even volunteer to model!
Whether you like the neosoul stylings of K’Monte, or are curious about the body art, or you just want to see what happens this month, you are invited to come out and enjoy Body Expression Thursdays for yourself.

I just want to get painted for a special day. Is the price the same as if it is for a photoshoot?

Yes it is. THe prices vary according to whether you are asking for more detail or not. Detail equals increased prices.

What kinds of paints do you use?

Mostly Wolfe Bros. or Mehron Paradise. Both are stage grade water soluble paints with a good pigment count. They 100% FDA approved for skin and we sanitize the brushes after each event.

Should I Shave to get painted?

Guys, ABSOLUTELY!! Girls, only if you are hairy. No really, this is important for photoshoots and events, especially live painting events, hair can be wierd to paint through, and although it will likely not show up on film, better safe than sorry.

Our body painting packages include professional painting concepts to full body creations. We work with our clients to create the look they seek. Whether our clients want to use their own brand in a dynamic way or recreate a theme or motif, we have a crew of artists who are ready and willing to make it happen.

Adult Face painting $100/hr
Individual costuming/face painting (ideal for single person or small group[2-3] preparing for special event, ie party, night out)

Standard package *$300 and up
2-3 hours of bodyart services for one model, (model fee not included). Full or partial body.

Premium Package *$800 and up
Large body painting event. 2-3 models, 4-6 hours. Great for entertainment during the event. Model fees not included.

*$175 Photo shoot of any bodyart Minimum 2
hrs

*Price subject to change depending on details. These are Estimated prices only! Rush jobs, ie jobs that require 3 models painted in 2 hours for example, will incur a fee.

Our last show in the jungle was a lot of fun, but this one promises to be exceptional.

Pooped painter

I am one pooped painter. I did a 3-hour private party for children yesterday, then did a 5 hour painting stint at my friend's art opening!!! I am tired in a good way, and I beefed up my portfolio considerably.
The biggest challenge I will need to work on is controlling my overspray. My airbrush worked wonderfully last night. She allowed me to do things I did not kow I could do. I fell really proud because I learned so much about the process.
I did about 8 models more than this, including a Cheetarah, from the Thundercats. My daughter was in charge of the camera, but she slacked off on the JOB!!! She had a great time too!

Hello thought I'd try it. Has anyone ever been allergic to the paints?One model asked me if it would be better or easier if they wore something like a sheer bodysuit. I'm not sure but I guess that would be like pantyhose material.

How many body/face painters would like to know that they will get a minimum amount for every job they do. A set minimum for non-profit jobs and a set for corporate clients and even for individual kids parties? I would like to for a union so that good artists can get paid... consistently. I am tired of cheap people willing to pay a DJ $250 per hour, but only wanting to pay a face or body artist $40-60 per hour. We are professionals also.
I would also like to cut out a lot of the "pay-per-face" jobs, except very limited instances. If we unionize, then people who hire from the union could be assured of certain professionism and quality. And we can bring the market up, to be comparable with face and body art in Europe. I ask for respect.
